Celebrity’s’ children are kids who are either the offspring of the famous or are themselves. Because they are minors, they are required to attend school. For some, the schooling option is at home, but for others, a unique social life achieved from enrolling in either public or private campuses is preferable for the family. These are the students with whom we are most concerned.

In a recent interview, AEGIS’ own Jeff Zisner, President and CEO, discusses the unique challenges and responsibilities schools face when they have celebrities roaming the hall. According to Zisner, the largest issue is “paparazzi enthusiasts,” who are not licensed members of the press and are looking to make a quick buck with a photo of a celebrity kid because they cannot get closer to an adult celebrity. This means that they are not going to be concerned with boundaries or privacy, making them more dangerous to the student and campus.
There are a couple resolutions that can be taken for this kind of intrusion. First, high-profile cases may choose to utilize a personal guard on the campus who will walk the student to each class and wait outside of the class until the next passing period. This type of executive protection is typically reserved for students and families who have received direct threats or who are considered high-risk by security consultants. Second, campuses can provide a security team for the entire campus, ensuring that gates are secured and suspicious people are reported immediately and removed from the premises. Having a security team with officers who are highly trained, such as those at AEGIS, can be more beneficial to a campus looking to enhance its security to ensure that individual students do not have extra attention on them as could be a side-effect of walking around with a bodyguard.
Security breaches at schools attended by high-profile children are fairly common. Just last week, a woman broke into Prince George’s school in London. In the LA area, paparazzi flock to the streets of Coldwater Canyon, Beverly Hills, and Hollywood to try to catch a glimpse of celebrities picking up their kids from schools in the area. The best means of security for these institutions is to have physical security.
