KSHV Study in HIV-negative Individuals

Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons is performing a study of Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV/HHV-8). This recently discovered virus has been found to be associated with clinical forms of Kaposi's sarcoma, including the type that occurs in HIV-negative individuals. The laboratory of Drs. Yuan Chang and Patrick Moore at Columbia University has sequenced the virus, developed a variety of serologic assays and performed functional gene studies to investigate the pathogenesis of KSHV-related disease. The next phase of their research will examine the cell-mediated T-cell response to this virus. The investigators are looking for HIV-negative, gay men to participate in a serologic screening assay to identify individuals who are KSHV-positive but HIV-negative.
