TOXICITY: AZT and Related Drugs

The toxicities of AZT and ddI have been described in past issues of TreatmentUpdate. The toxic effects of AZT on the immune system are reported in TreatmentUpdate 24, 26 and 41. Side effects of ddI appear in TreatmentUpdate 25 and 27.

DDC

Painful damage to the nerves in the feet and hands (peripheral neuropathy) can happen in as many as 33% of patients. Other side effects include ulcers, rash, headache and nausea.
