Robin Hardy with David Groff. 1999.

Robin Hardy had AIDS but died in a mountaineering accident. Has manuscript, The Crisis of Desire, was edited by David Groff and provides us with a unique look at the struggle gay men are having in coping with AIDS. He was a strong advocate in sexual expressiveness. "Robin Hardy calls on gay men to reclaim their erotic expressiveness and accept the 'mortal risk of loving'." He speaks of gay brotherhood as a way to fight this devastating epidemic. Pat Califia says of The Crisis of Desire "Hardy's stinging prose puts the blame for more than two decades of death squarely where it belongs: on the shoulders of an antigay government indifferent to massive suffering, and a profit-driven medical industry." Everyone will not agree to what Hardy offers but he has a message that says we should be seeking that gay brotherhood of love and not have it taken away by all of the anti-gay rhetoric. A recommended book for all libraries.
