edited by John P. Phair, Edward King, incorporating the Proceedings of the 11th Annual Clinical Care Options for HIV Symposium, Laguna Niguel, CA, May 31-June 3, 2001. 2001.

This is an excellent, easy-to-read, review of HIV/AIDS for 2001. The eleven chapters cover: "Immunopathogenesis of HIV Infection," "Viral Pathogenesis: Mechanisms of Persistence," "Antiretroviral Therapy: Starting, Continuing, and Fixing," "Making Sense of Resistance Testing," "Clinical Significance of Antiretroviral Drug Levels," "Therapeutic Drug Monitoring: Step by Step," "Metabolic Complications of Antiretroviral Therapy," "Liver Disease and Antiretroviral Therapy," "New Agents for Anti-HIV Therapy," "Management of HIV Infection in Injection-Drug Users," and "Fighting the Epidemic at Ground Zero." There is a very useful appendix that provides a "Quick Guide to Antiretrovirals. This is a recommended book for all health science libraries.
