This annual update provides "an excellent review of advances in our understanding of the biology of the viral-host interactions underlying the pathogenesis of this infection and state-of-the-art management of the HIV-infected individual." Each of the topics provides concise information through the use of text, tables, figures, and summaries of key points of clinical significance.

The summaries that are included in this annual review are: "Immunopathogenesis of HIV Infection," "Viral Pathogenesis: Update and Clinical Implications," "Human Genetic Factors that Impact HIV Infection and Progression," "Antiretroviral Therapy: Initial Strategies," "Managing Antiretroviral-Experienced Patients," "Choosing and Using Resistance Assays," "Drug Interactions: Better Living Through Pharmacology," "Adherence: Issues and Strategies," "Clinical Management of HIV-Infected Infants and Children," "Emerging Issues in the Clinical Management of HIV in Women," "Fat Redistribution and Metabolic Abnormalities," "Hyperlipidemia and Insulin Resistance Due to HIV Infection and Its Therapies," "Hypertension and HIV Infection," "Opportunistic Infections 2000," "Co-Infection with Hepatitis C and HIV," and "Virus-Related Cancers in the HAART Era." There, also, is a quick guide to antiretrovirals.

This is an excellent review publication that should be available in all medical libraries. It would be a useful reference source for large public libraries.
