Well, believe it or not, it's that time again to nominate people and organizations you believe should be honored with this year's Spirit of Hope Award. Now in its seventh year, the Spirit of Hope Award recognizes those who have generously given of their time, their talent and their energy to help Being Alive and our HIV/AIDS community as a whole.

Just a little history for those of you unfamiliar with this event: Our first recipient of the Spirit of Hope Award was Dr. Mark Katz back in 1993. In addition to his busy schedule as an emergency room physician, seeing AIDS patients in West LA, and serving on several Boards within Kaiser Permanente, Dr. Katz volunteered his time to Being Alive as Medical Director as well as serving many other AIDS organizations throughout Southern California. This is what we want to recognize, an individual or an organization who serve people living with HIV and AIDS, both practically and with passion. (A full list of all our Spirit of Hope Award Recipients can be found on the enclosed Nomination Form.)

Each year, the Selection Committee looks to our membership to recommend various individuals and organizations. From the pool of nominees, we will select our 1999 Spirit of Hope Award Recipients Enclosed with this newsletter is a Nomination Form which you may fax back to us at 310.289.9866, or mail to Being Alive, 621 N. San Vicente Boulevard, West Hollywood, CA 90069. We're asking that all nominations reach Being Alive by April 15th so that we can begin working on the other aspects of the year's major fundraising event.

Our seventh annual Spirit of Hope Awards ceremony and fundraiser will take place on Sunday, October 17, 1999 at The Village at Ed Gould Plaza. With your help, we'll be able to recognize some wonderful people and organizations as this year's Spirit of Hope Award Recipients.
