Being Alive 1998: An Experience For Everyone

Being Alive, Los Angeles; Feburary 1998
Brad Land, President of the Board of Directors

The beginning of this New Year finds me at the end of my current term as President of the Being Alive Board of Directors. Our bylaws call for a changing of the guardboard members and elected officerseach January. I completely endorse this yearly rotation in leadership, as it allows other board members to step forward and assume command and responsibility, help shape the future course of the organization, suggest and implement change, and, most importantly, expand upon their individual Being Alive experiences. Each of us has the opportunity to take part in the leadership of Being Alive and thereby directly participate in the management and care of our own futures.

Being Alive's monthly Board Meetings are open to anyone who wishes to attend. Members are encouraged to actively participate in these working meetings, which take place the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at the Silver Lake office. I think it is imperative for members at large to participate in these meetings. Being Alive started as a grassroots organization, and therein lies its continuing strength. Only by your participation can we continue to operate in this grassroots fashion. Being Alive remains committed to providing reliable services to all our constituents, including women. The Board extends an ongoing invitation to all women interested in continuing women's programs at Being Alive and to anyone willing to serve as a board member. You simply need to empower and challenge yourself, to raise your voice. It will be heard.

The Yearly Membership Retreat

At the beginning of each year Being Alive holds a "membership retreat," a formal opportunity for the membership and the community at large to meet and exchange ideas. This retreat is currently scheduled for Sunday, February 15, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Silver Lake office. This is a great time to offer your thoughts and suggestions for the future course of Being Alive. Afterwards, join friends and family at the Sunday Social.
