(BALA) Your Nutrition Appointment: Appointment Apprehension

BEING ALIVE: Los Angeles February 1995
Jennifer Jensen, MS, RD

Through many years of maintaining a private practice in "general" nutrition, I learned of certain phobias that may prevent people from going to a nutritionist. The biggest, fear of having imperfections subjected to examination, suggests a common anxiety based on the assumption that nutritionists all eat the perfectly well balanced diet we recommend for our clients.

News Bulletin: Many of us are not perfect. As I've said for years: "A halo would probably be a pretty heavy piece of headgear to have to wear!" I must admit that I've never had a chance to try this out, imperfect as I am!

Another intimidating factor on making a nutrition appointment is the fear that it could mean the last of the "eating for fun" era. And perish the thought, maybe even eating unenjoyable food-perhaps with a "smallish" appetite. Not this nutritionist! And, happily, not most of the rest of us either.
