Among men, about 12% of the new AIDS diagnoses for January through May 1993 were attributable to the CDC redefinition. In contrast, among women, about 22% of the new cases were because of the redefinition. In Los Angeles County, about 4% of all AIDS cases reported since the start of the epidemic are female; nationally, AIDS among women is about 12% of all reported diagnoses.
