NEWS IN BRIEF: Access to nelfinavir

AIDS Treatment Update, Issue 63, March 1998
Edward King

In January 1998, the protease inhibitor nelfinavir was approved for marketing in Europe. However, Roche has reported that due to high demand, commercial supplies will not be available in pharmacies until early May. In the meantime, the company will provide nelfinavir through the existing named patient basis scheme, and will now supply drug for "any patient in whom it is considered nelfinavir would provide benefit", including people who have never taken a protease inhibitor before. For details, doctors should call Ben Wills on 01707 365707.
