Healing and Health and Hope 2003
Information Bulletin #17 - February 2003
This is the first edition of the newly revised Information Bulletin. What's the big difference? First off, it's not always going to be just about drugs. It's about being well, thinking and acting positive, creating health and supporting others. It's about trying to find a better way to live while getting rid of the habits and things that don't support you. So this issue includes an article about why you really shouldn't smoke if you can help it, and what you can do to try to stop. We know it's hard to make changes, especially if you're juggling a job, family, bills, and survival needs as well as your health. We'll have more information about dealing with hepatitis, especially co-infection with HIV and hepatitis C (HCV), liver issues, sexually transmitted diseases (STD) like syphilis and human papillomaviruses (HPV) and herpes, new and experimental treatments for HIV and AIDS, and other topics related to being healthy. Tell us what you want to know about. On the last page, you need to tell us how you want to receive Health Information Bulletin. We can e-mail it to you, or fax it to you, or you can go straight to our website and read it there. Visit our HIV and HCV Case Management Program sites. Treatment for hepatitis C (HCV) is not easy, especially among people who already have HIV. Another study recently concluded that there are many reasons why a co-infected individual should not consider HCV treatment. People need all kinds of support and counseling - and they need to know it's going to be there when it's needed. The Network has a program that helps people address these issues. You don't need to start taking treatment to join. Our goal is to provide a program where people can get support, talk everything out, look at what their options are, ask about what happened to other people who have tried these treatments, and work together with their doctor, case manager and support team. Give Ruben Montañez a call at (800)734-7104 and see what it's all about.
