(ATDN) Treatment for Retinal Detachments

Treatment Review #16; January 1995

A treatment called Adatomed Silicone Oil has been approved by the FDA for treatment of detached retinas. Detached retinas can be a symptom of CMV infection in the eyes, which is called CMV retinitis. In reviewing the data from clinical trials, the FDA found that Adatomed was the most effective treatment for retinal detachments caused by CMV retinitis. Use of silicone oil for retinal detachment requires surgery.
