"I love movies, and I love my life," Chan says in the public service ad. "A movie needs danger," he says from the set of a martial arts film featuring a man and women doing battle. "In life, we need to be safe. Life is too good. Please protect yourself."
The PSA was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as part of its push against AIDS in China. The ad was produced by the China AIDS Media Project, and the content has been approved by ChinaÆs Ministry of Health and the governmental broadcasting arm, CCTV.
The brains behind the ad are Ruby Yang and Thomas Lennon, who also collaborated on a popular Gates-funded PSA starring Houston Rockets star Yao Ming and former Laker Magic Johnson, who is HIV positive. The basketball stars shoot hoops and share Chinese takeout, in a bid to end stigma surrounding HIV. You can watch that here.
The Chan ad is expected to be shown starting around World AIDS Day on Dec. 1.
