State health officials, along with Los Angeles county officials, have expressed concern the adult film industry does not have sufficient safety regulations to prevent the spread of sexually-transmitted diseases, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.
Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation officials said while the actress, who was not identified, has tested positive for HIV, all of her recent sexual partners have tested negative.
"This is really not a major event," foundation administrator Brooke Hunter said.
"I don't think there's a problem right now," actor, producer and director Jules Jordan told the newspaper. "It's like people who do stunts in Hollywood. There's a risk in anything you do."
But county health officials say they have identified at least 16 additional cases involving adult film performers who have tested positive for HIV. Those cases have gone unpublicized, the officials told the Times.
The newspaper said if the officials' numbers are correct, it would mean a total of 22 performers have tested positive for HIV, which can lead to AIDS, during the last five years.
