Man accused of faking HIV document

United Press International - December 9, 2008

NEW YORK, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- New York authorities allege an HIV-positive man faked a document saying he was negative for the virus so a woman would have unprotected sex with him.

"With deceit and depravity, the defendant repeatedly endangered the life of a person he supposedly cared for," Rose Gill Hearn, Commissioner of the Department of Investigation, said of Duane Lang, 47, of Queens.

Lang was charged Monday in Queens Criminal Court with reckless endangerment, a charge punishable by up to seven years in prison, said a release from Hearn's office.

Lang allegedly had unprotected sex with the woman numerous times from December 2007 to March 2008 before he admitted faking the document that said he had tested negative, Hearn's office said.

The report did not say whether the woman had been infected.
