At a sentencing hearing Thursday, Crown prosecutors asked for the lengthy sentence for 31-year-old Sudanese refugee Clato Mabior for his July conviction on six counts of aggravated sexual assault and one count each of sexual touching and sexual interference, the Winnipeg Sun reported.
His defense team asked Justice Joan McKelvey to consider a sentence of 13 or 14 years.
Justice Joan McKelvey put off sentencing until Oct. 10, but when she pronounced the conviction, she noted his apparent disregard for his female victims -- the youngest 12 -- and called him a "sexual predator" by not informing them he was HIV-positive, the newspaper said.
"He knowingly withheld that information from his sexual partners on the basis that in all likelihood they would not have engaged in sexual contact with him," McKelvey said.
The report said regardless of his eventual prison sentence, he would be deported on release.
