Woman faces new AIDS prostitution charge

United Press International - November 29, 2007

DENVER, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- A Denver woman charged in 2000 with engaging in prostitution while infected with AIDS has been arrested on the same charge.

Frances Woodke was being held in lieu of $75,000 bond, The Denver Post reported.

Woodke received a probationary sentence in 2000 after pleading guilty to a lesser charge. She eventually served three years in prison for violating probation.

Police arrested her at her home Saturday. A spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office said investigators had learned that she was once again engaging in prostitution.

Carol Lease, executive director of the Empowerment Program, an organization helping women caught up in the judicial system, told Channel 9 News in Denver that imprisoning women like Woodke only causes more problems when they are released.
