Prosecutors in Essex County say they want Hassan Vann to be tested for HIV, the Newark Star-Ledger reported. His alleged victim, Raymond Little, is HIV positive and said he believes he may have been infected during unprotected sex with the teacher.
The indictment includes an allegation that Vann knowingly infected Little.
Vann taught at West Side High School in Newark from 2000 to 2005. Little says the teacher pushed him against a wall and sexually molested him when he was a freshman, and that they began a relationship two years later which continued to his graduation.
"These allegations are horrendous," County Prosecutor Paula Dow said. "No student should ever be exposed to what our victim in this case experienced during his time in school."
Vann was dismissed from West Side for poor performance in 2005. He was suspended from his job at a middle school in nearby Irvington when the allegations became public.
