Ranbaxy to launch HIV drug combo in India

United Press International - November 30, 2005

GURGAON, India, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Ranbaxy said Wednesday it would launch two HIV drug combination products in India Thursday to mark World AIDS day.

The products -- Virolis-E and Virocomb-E -- provide highly active anti-retroviral therapy in daily use packs.

Brian Tempest, Ranbaxy's CEO and managing director, said the products "aim to make HIV treatment easier to administer and use."

Virolis-E contains two fixed dose combination tablets of Lamivudine and Stavudine and one tablet of Efavirenz. Virocomb-E consists of two combination tablets of Lamivudine and Zidovudine and one tablet of Efavirenz.

The packages contain graphics that indicate the time when the drugs need to be taken. Ranbaxy said the products will be sold under the name Coviro-E and Avocomb-E in most countries outside of India.
