So far 60 people have tested negative for the AIDS virus. But health officials say testing will continue for months while the man they say admits to starting it, James Jones, returns to prison for a new term of up to 22 years.
Jones failed to reveal his infection before having sex with 10 women and girls, some as young as 15, in the Traverse City area.
He was released from prison last summer after serving four years for a sex offense involving a minor.
Grand Traverse County Health Director Fred Keeslar says he's "hopeful" none of the women or their partners contracted the deadly disease. But he says it may be months before the virus shows up. More tests are scheduled in three months. Keeslar says Jones has cooperated, and nine of the 10 direct partners have been tested along with their partners. One of Jones's partners could not be found. In a plea agreement with the local prosecutor, Jones has pleaded guilty to one count each of third degree criminal sexual conduct, failing to inform a sex partner he's HIV positive, and being a habitual sex offender.
In exchange, Prosecutor Dennis LaBelle says other charges against Jones were dropped.
