Prosecutors say the workers manipulated tests for HIV, hepatitis and other deadly viruses, saying they had been done thoroughly when in fact vital control procedures were never followed.
Eleazar Maniago, a former assitant manager at the Manhattan facility, was sentenced to a year and a day in jail for orchestrating the shoddy tests.
Sentenced to a half year in jail was Rosa Gonzales, a technician convicted of falsely certifying she was qualified to perform blood tests, and who helped fake results.
Gonzales, a manager in the testing lab, also helped workers get around proficiency tests of their own qualifications by ordering one technician to take the tests in other workers' names.
The Blood Center was responsible for collecting, testing and distributing blood in the New York area, around the county and in foreign nations.
Officials say they have not found any instances of contamination as a result of the slip-shod procedures.
Gonzales and Maniago were ordered to report to prison on Jan. 20.
