UPI announces cooperation with AEGiS

United Press International; September 24, 1997

Washington, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- United Press International has agreed to allow UPI articles related to HIV and AIDS to be included in AEGiS, a non-profit knowledge base which is used by HIV sufferers and scientists and researchers worldwide.

It's an online system that has become the largest database of HIV information in the world -- the epidemic's journal of record. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention calls the AEGiS database, "the best of its kind."

AEGiS, which stands for the AIDS Education Global Information System was founded in 1990 by the Sisters of St. Elizabeth of Hungary.

Sister Mary Elizabeth, spokeswoman for the non-profit group, says many HIV and AIDS victims see the AEGiS database and daily dispatches as weapons to relieve their suffering and isolation.

UPI stories on the AEGiS database can be found at http://www.aegis.org/news/upi/
