The New York Times - July 20, 1986
Red Cross officials said Friday the 30 donors had contributed blood since 1977.
However, no blood from those donors has been used since a screening program for acquired immune deficiency syndrome that began in April 1985 showed positive results.
However, the donors may have passed on the AIDS virus before the test was available, said Dr. Richard G. Cable, blood program director.
Dr. Cable said the search began a few weeks ago as part of a national program by the Red Cross to track down donated blood that may be infected by the AIDS virus.
He said seven cases had been confirmed in which a person was exposed to the AIDS virus after receiving transfusions of blood donated by a Connecticut resident. He said about half of those recipients had developed AIDS.
