The Red Cross will recruit and train attendants, and each of the patients who require the more intensive home care will be under the supervision of a registered nurse.
City officials said that it was decided this year to select a special contractor because of the large number of AIDS cases in the city and the nature of the disease, for which there is no known cause or cure. More than 1,100 cases have been reported in the city.
