An HIV test is scary stuff - but it's worth facing your fears

Sunday Times (Johannesburg) - October 7, 2007

My Peers still think I'm a daring person, or "crazy" as they say. Entering that health facility you start to think twice - maybe you should leave, you're not ready for such news.

But then again, when will you know your status if you don't do it now? A little voice inside me gives me strength: "You've come this far. No one told you to do the test - that's a sign that you've grown."

Most 20-year-olds have so much fun that they compromise their lives when it comes to sex. Ignoring protection has huge consequences, but it's not up to me to knock sense into you. You have a choice to want to live or to die, and I choose to live. I did my HIV/Aids test.

Here's a list of my five people who did an HIV test: Siyabulela Peter, Marcia Mrubata, Fezeka Dyantyi, Hlubikazi Bunyonyo and Aphelele Bunyonyo. I, Ziyanda Bunyonyo, support this campaign.
