Eleven members of the Johannesburg-based theatre company will perform at the Grahamstown National Arts Festival Fringe.
Eric Richardson, the company's managing director, said: "HIV education involves behaviour change. It is not just about knowledge, but about attitudes too."
Fiona de Villiers, production manager of the interactive theatre, said the actors will talk to young incarcerated offenders and perform the show Class of 2007.
The show traces the dilemma of a playboy named Mzobo. He is confronted with news that his girlfriend Lebo is HIV-positive.
Richardson said Themba productions are effective in bringing messages across to an audience because they are interactive.
He said: "The audience can interact with the characters and get involved in the action. The audience can share their experiences too."
