Full-blown beauty: Hlubi Mboya is mighty fine-looking - not even playing the HIV-infected Nandipha on Isidingo can shift that

Sunday Times (Johannesburg) - July 30, 2006

So what's the best lesson you've learnt from playing an HIV-positive character?

Well, that HIV/Aids is not a death sentence, and that the most intrinsic thing of beating this virus is a solid and caring support system of family and friends.

How has playing Nandipha affected your life?

It's shown me that even though I'm educated and liberal, I still have my prejudices. We have to change this attitude into a positive outlook.

What has been the most flattering remark you've received about playing Nandipha?

That she is a vehicle of change. She's also an inspiration to so many people in SA. And that she is young, successful, loving and in control of her destiny.

Are you disappointed that you didn't make FHM's list of Sexiest Women this year?

Yep. But when a door shuts another opens.

Besides your husky voice, what else makes you sexy?

My everything.

Which household items can't you live without?

My fridge, mirror and radio/DVD player.

What is it like to have a sister (Kuli Roberts) and a cousin (Bad Boy T) in entertainment?

They are my mentors who inspire me to be the best I can be. Who could ask for anything more?

What other characters would you like to play?

Any role that breaks the mould and gets me to be somebody else is the ultimate challenge, and, hey, I lurv challenges.

What's the best thing about working on Isidingo?

Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever end up working with people who are so dedicated to the craft and so fun-loving as my colleagues. Big ups to all of them.
