Help for domestic workers

Sunday Times (Johannesburg) - April 30, 2006

BEV White and Thembi have started a support group to help domestic staff, nannies, caregivers and their employers to deal with HIV.

Living Positively at Home aims to "facilitate support, strength and inspiration between the caregiver and her employer".

Its mission statement reads: "We believe that the outlook, effective treatment and full understanding of HIV begins at home. As strong, responsible women of South Africa, we will never pretend HIV does not exist we will never shut the doors or turn our face away; we are courageous and we will always live positively. Our unity is our strength."

The support group hopes to allay fears, banish ignorance and encourage people to be tested for HIV.
