Time to reward those who care

Sunday Times (Johannesburg) - September 20, 2005

Khomanani is calling for nominations for its 2005 Excellence Awards. Khomanani, which means "caring together" in Tsonga, is the government's communication campaign aimed at preventing the spread of HIV/Aids and improving care and treatment for people affected by HIV/Aids, tuberculosis and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The Excellence Awards, organised jointly by Khomanani and the SA Business Coalition on HIV/Aids, recognise people and organisations who have made exceptional contributions in promoting quality care and support, healthy living and healthy lifestyles.

There are three categories:

* Health workers, including doctors, nurses, health workers, health promoters, TB clinic care workers, and home-based care workers;

* Community care workers, which includes volunteers and employees who promote health programmes or provide care for people in need; and

* Large and small businesses, which offer support to employees and others affected by HIV/Aids, TB and STIs.

Nominations close on September 20 2005. Winners and runners-up will receive their prizes in November. You can fax your nomination to (011) 833-7454 or post it to Khomanani Excellence Awards, PO Box 0847, Saxonwold, 2132.
