Mark Heywood, the head of the Aids Law Project at Wits University, which represented the women, said he was disappointed by the judgment, which found the publisher liable but dismissed the claim against De Lille and Smith.
Judge Ivor Schwartzman ruled in Friday's judgment that the names of the three women must be removed from the remaining 1000 books and that publishers New Africa Books must pay the women R15000 each in damages.
