Skweyiya reports back to business

Sunday Times (Johannesburg) - Sunday, 22 Jun 2003
Adele Shevel

Zola Skweyiya, the Minister of Social Development, met business leaders on Friday evening to release the report of a summit held with the private sector in October last year.

The report collates information from the two-day business summit, which dealt with private-public partnerships to counter socio-economic challenges.

"This report will go a long way towards consolidating our efforts as government, business, labour, civil society and communities at large in the fight against poverty [and] HIV/Aids . . . and will strengthen the efforts of the Growth and Development Summit," says Skweyiya.

The summit was hosted by the Department of Social Development and the National Development Agency, and focused on the socioeconomic effects of HIV/ Aids and funding integration, among other topics. At the time, about 40 projects worth about R40-million were announced, including infrastructural and technical support initiatives.

Patrons of the initiative Cyril Ramaphosa and Raymond Ackerman, as well as civil society leaders and faith-based organisations, were due to attend on Friday.
