The Women of Stature in Sasolburg awarded Johnson the title in appreciation for what she did for Nkosi, who died in June aged 12, and other people who are infected with HIV/Aids. Johnson received a certificate, a trophy and flowers.
The organisation said it had been touched by Johnson's love for Nkosi, whom she treated as her blood child.
Nkosi's Haven, the project Johnson started to house women with HIV/Aids and their children, has bought an acre of farmland about 15km from Vereeniging to create jobs for mothers who are infected. In return, the women will receive a percentage of profits from the project.
