2008 Zimbabwe Run

Run for a good cause at the ninth annual Zimbabwe Orphans Run and Fair. Hosted by the Sustainable Living Foundation and St. Joseph Parish of Mountain View, the event will include a mile race for first-graders to adults, a 220-yard race for preschoolers, half mile for kindergartners and a 100-yard dash for Lion-Hearted Kids with disabilities. Race proceeds go to the Makumbi Children's Home in Zimbabwe for AIDS orphans. The goal is to match or exceed the $30,000 raised in 2007. This year's race and fair will feature the Rev. Stephen Silungwe from Zimbabwe, the former interim director of the home. The event also will include a raffle. Noon-4 p.m. Sun. $5 to run. $10 for T-shirt. Festival is free. Online registration is open through midnight Fri. St. Joseph School, 1120 Miramonte, Mountain View (next to McKelvey Ball Park). Martinez Celebrates Cycling

Rally the troops and head to Martinez this weekend for the Bike Race and Live Healthy Fair. Watch as more than 400 pro and semipro cyclists storm the streets of downtown Martinez for more than $13,000 in cash and prizes. The race will include eight categories, with 75-100 cyclists per category. Races can last as long as an hour and a half. If that's not enough cycling madness for you, the day also will include a health fair, featuring vendors in bicycle and health-related industries; a BMX stunt show; and Kids Bike Rodeo. 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat. Angel Island Native Plant Tour

If you're looking for a leisurely bike ride this weekend and have an interest in plants, then join the good folks at the S.F. Bike Coalition for this family-friendly ride that will introduce riders to the native flora of Angel Island. Pack a lunch and bring $15 for round-trip ferry fare. 10:30 a.m. Sun. Free.
