San Francisco Chronicle - July 1, 2006
Charlie Goodyear
The money -- drawn mostly from higher-than-expected property tax revenue -- includes $4.5 million for affordable housing and homeless services, $4 million for violence prevention, $3.1 million for public health services and substance abuse treatment, $2.6 million for HIV/AIDS programs, $2.2 million for senior and disabled services, $1.3 million for immigrant legal aid and related support, and $819,000 for parks and recreation facilities.
To provide the funding, supervisors also reallocated about $13 million that Mayor Gavin Newsom had programmed for other city departments in his proposed fiscal year 2006-2007 city budget. The supervisors will vote on a final spending plan for the fiscal year later this month.
