SAN FRANCISCO / Judge limits access of AIDS dissidents

San Francisco Chronicle - Thursday, April 19, 2001

A judge has ordered six members of the AIDS dissident group ACT UP/San Francisco to stay away from offices of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and five employees after the group staged a noisy protest at the agency Oct. 23.

San Francisco Superior Court Judge James McBride's order, which covers a three-year period, says the six activists must stay 100 feet away from the foundation's Sixth Street offices as well as agency Executive Director Pat Christen and four other employees. The judge issued his order on Tuesday.

The restricted activists are Dave Pasquarelli, Michael Bellefountaine, Todd Swindell, Ronnie Burk and Betty Best.

Since the mid-'90s, ACT UP/San Francisco has clashed with mainstream AIDS organizations over its belief that HIV does not cause AIDS.
