HIV-Related Support Group To Meet Weekly

San Francisco Chronicle - Tuesday, December 12, 2000

Beginning next month, Concord's Rainbow Community Center and Familias Unidas will offer free HIV testing in conjunction with starting an "HIV+ Gay Men and Their Families Support Group."

Meeting every Monday, the group will explore issues facing gay men who are living with HIV, as well as issues faced by the families caring for them. Among them: intimacy and dating; returning to work; sexuality and sensuality; long-term survivor challenges; and local HIV resources.

Beginning January 22 and running through June 10, the group will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. every Monday except Memorial Day.

The support group is being offered in conjunction with a bimonthly free and anonymous HIV testing program conducted at the Rainbow Center by the Contra Costa AIDS program. The tests will be conducted Jan. 22, Feb. 12 and 26, March 5 and 19, April 2 and 16, May 7 and 21 and June 4. Meeting attendance is not required to receive a test.

For more information, call the Rainbow Center at (925)692-0090. The Center is located at 2118 Willow Pass Road, Suite 500, Concord.
