Need the latest information on everything about AIDS, from new drugs and help-giving resources to the state of the epidemic?

Computer users with Internet access can log on to http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu and reach a new World Wide Web site started yesterday by AIDS experts at the University of California at San Francisco.

All material in the project will be reviewed by UCSF AIDS specialists, university officials said. The site will contain research and treatment topics edited and updated by scientists, physicians and other AIDS workers.

"Reliable, timely information is essential to developing effective responses to the HIV epidemic," said Dr. Paul Volberding, director of the AIDS program at San Francisco General Hospital and a leading clinical researcher.

The project, Volberding said, is designed to provide information about treatments that may save the lives of people living with HIV, or AIDS.

One of the site's categories is a medical section designed to meet the needs of researchers, policy makers and people living with HIV. Other sections deal with prevention, social issues and statistical data on the epidemic's regional impact throughout the United States.

The new service is being provided by the UCSF AIDS Research Institute, the Center for AIDS Prevention Studies and the AIDS program at San Francisco General Hospital. It is supported by the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation.
