At a joint press conference, the protesters and Lorimar Productions, producers of the new NBC series "Midnight Caller," agreed to work together over the next two weeks reviewing footage to determine whether the protesters' demands can be further accommodated.
"We've heard a lot and had our eyes opened and have made substantial changes so far," said Bob Singer, executive producer of the show. "We're certainly willing to be enlightened even more."
The disputed episode involves a bisexual man who knowingly infects others with the HIV virus. Demonstrators forced a halt to filming last Thursday night, and they defied a court order by protesting again Tuesday night.
The producers have already revised the script in response to demands. In the original version, a former lover of the HIV virus-infected man shoots him and gets away. In the script as it is now, the hero of the show prevents the murder.
But protesters are seeking further changes.
"Our community can not rest until the HIV-infected villain is accurately portrayed as an innocent HIV-infected human being," said Terry Beswick of ACT UP, the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power.
