Top SA stars for 46664 concert

South African Press Association - October 29, 2007

Johnny Clegg, Arno Carstens, Loyiso, The Parlotones, Prime Circle and the Soweto Gospel Choir are just some of the local stars scheduled to appear at the 46664 concert on December 1.

Former president Nelson Mandela was at the Ellis Park stadium today to greet the SA artists who have agreed to perform in his fifth 46664 concert aimed at fighting HIV/Aids.

Mandela arrived on the field in a golf cart to pose for pictures with the musicians.

He had to leave shortly afterwards, helped by his personal assistant, Zelda la Grange.

"You can see in his eyes he wants to stay but he has other duties to fulfil," said CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, Achmat Dangor.

All the artists stayed to make prints of their hands which will be used to make a giant mural representing the message of the 46664 concert - "it's in our hands" - and how SA should fight HIV/Aids.

Other SA artists scheduled for the concert are Cassette, Danny K, Goldfish, Jamali, Jozi, Just Jinjer, Louise Carver and Malaika.

International artists including Annie Lennox, Corinne Bailey Rae, Ludacris and the Goo Goo Dolls are just some of the international artists who have already agreed to perform.
