Immtech says oral drug candidate gets orphan status

Immtech Pharmaceuticals Inc. <IMM.A> said its drug candidate to treat a type of pneumonia that infects HIV/AIDS and other immunosuppressed patients received orphan drug status from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The company said its drug candidate, pafuramidine, is now in late stage clinical trials in HIV/AIDS patients with pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia. (Reporting by Rakesh Sharma in Bangalore)
