Bristol-Myers, Gilead form HIV drug joint venture

Reuters NewMedia - December 20, 2004

NEW YORK, Dec 20 (Reuters) - Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. and Gilead Sciences Inc. have formed a joint venture to develop and market a fixed-dose combination of their two HIV drugs, the companies said on Monday.

The joint venture will work to combine Bristol-Myers' drug Sustiva and Gilead's Truvada into a fixed-dose combination to be taken once daily with the aim of simplifying HIV therapy for patients and doctors.

The work needed to co-formulate the drugs has already begun and will continue into 2005, the companies said. They will share responsibility for commercializing the product in the United States and both companies will provide funding for sales representatives to promote the product.

Bristol-Myers and Gilead will receive revenue from future sales at percentages relative to the contribution represented by their individual products in the fixed-dose combination.
