DURHAM, N.C., Dec 22 (Reuters) - Triangle Pharmaceuticals Inc ON Monday said the government removed a clinical hold on testing of its HIV drug, DMP-450, and the company has agreed to start Phase I studies in January.

"We are very pleased that we have been able to rapidly reach agreement with the Food and Drug Administration to reinitiate clinical studies with DMP-450," said David Barry, chairman of the company, in a release.

The company said it obtained worldwide license rights to the drug when it acquired Avid Corp.

DMP-450 is a anti-HIV protease inhibitor.
