NEW YORK, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The 8th Wonder of the World, a leading entertainment company formed by Tantra and East West Entertainment, today announced they will produce a series of concerts over five years to benefit children affected by HIV/ AIDS. The series will raise funds for the "Unite For Children, Unite Against AIDS" Campaign which was launched on 25th October 2005.
The 8th Wonder of the World organization was founded specifically to increase global awareness for children affected by HIV/AIDS, raising funds for UNICEF and partners through arts and entertainment. Ten concerts are scheduled to take place at some of the most beautiful natural and man-made locations in the world.
The concerts, which will be backed by corporate sponsors, will feature renowned musical artists, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors and will be broadcast globally. The first concert in the series is planned to take place on February 25, 2006 at the Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
"Both myself and members of the Trans Continental family are proud to work as ambassadors for the 8th Wonder of the World concert series," said Lou Pearlman, founder of music groups such as the Backstreet Boys, 'N'-SYNC and chairman of Trans Continental Companies. "I cannot think of a better platform to encourage the global community to support the world's children in the battle against HIV/AIDS."
Every minute, a child dies from an AIDS-related illness. Every minute, four young people become infected with HIV. Fifteen million children have lost parents to AIDS; by the year 2010 it will be 20 million. However, fewer than 5 percent of HIV-positive children have access to the treatment they need and less than 10 percent of children who have lost parents to AIDS get public support or care.
"The AIDS crisis has been devastating for the world's children, yet they are still missing from today's global response. This series of concerts will contribute to correcting that, and we are grateful for this commitment from the concert organizers," said UNICEF's Chief of HIV/AIDS program division, Peter McDermott.
Concert locations will include the following natural and man-made wonders of the world:
* Taj Mahal - The concert will take place in Agra, India on February 25, 2006.
