bd's mongolian barbeque re-established its commitment to AIDS Walk Detroit by donating all of the proceeds from the sale of liquor at its celebratory event to AIDS Walk Detroit. In addition, bd's mongolian barbeque has formed 6 walk teams to participate in the Walk, one from each of its Michigan locations including Ann Arbor, Novi, Dearborn, Royal Oak, Auburn Hills and Sterling Heights.
"We are challenging each of our restaurant teams to substantially increase their fundraising efforts for AIDS Walk Detroit this year," said Brad Russell, Detroit Marketing Manager for bd's mongolian barbeque. "We have been associated with Steppin' Out and AIDS Walk Detroit for the entire 10 years of our existence and we hope to make our participation in this year's Walk the best ever," said Russell at the event.
State and local officials joined in Thursday's celebration at the chain's original restaurant in Royal Oak, including State Representative John Pappageorge, Royal Oak Mayor Bill Urich, Jean Chamberlain, South End Government Liaison for Oakland County, Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson and Bill "BD" Downs, founder of bd's mongolian barbeque. During the ceremony, Pappageorge offered a special tribute to Billy Downs from Governor Engler, congratulating him on ten years of exceptional service.
The 2002 Walk will be held on September 15 in Royal Oak, beginning in the Lafayette Parking Lot on Lafayette Avenue just south of 11 Mile. AIDS Walk Detroit 2002 marks the 12th consecutive walk produced by Steppin' Out. Since its inception in 1991, Steppin' Out has raised more than $1.7 million.
