While research and prevention efforts have achieved considerable progress, nearly 40 million people are now living with HIV/AIDS worldwide, and 16,000 become newly infected each day. Because HIV primarily affects people during their most economically productive years, the increasing human and economic costs of the epidemic can no longer be ignored. This symposium seeks to generate substantive dialogue about the serious economic and social repercussions of HIV/AIDS and to help define strategies to foster public- private partnerships in the fight against AIDS.
