WALTHAM, Mass., Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Viral load testing has demonstrated the efficacy of emerging AIDS drugs. It is now known that combination therapies involving compounds such as protease inhibitors and non- nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs) are the key to reducing viral load. The development of such compounds will expand treatment capabilities and add new options to the drug cocktails used to treat HIV infection. Viral load testing, such as Chiron's bDNA test, has also been used to identify hepatitis C patients who are likely to benefit from alpha- interferon therapy.
