Yacouba Tou, commercial officer at the association for the social promotion and marketing of condoms (PROMACO), which set its stand at the main entrance of one of the conference halls, said the distribution was an awareness campaign.
PROMACO achieved its objective, which was to raise awareness on the need to practice safe sex by using condoms, Tou said, adding that a great number of the free condoms were taken away by national and foreign participants.
"There were as much men as women," he told PANA, noting that in fact, women asked to have more condoms.
Meanwhile, Tou said PROMACO would launch on 20 December in Banfora (425 km west of Ouagadougou) an awareness campaign, which aimed on emphasising personal commitment in the protection strategy against HIV/AIDS.
With the theme "It's my life", the campaign intends to collect, throughout Burkina Faso, one million signatures or fingerprints of people who will commit themselves to act against the spread of AIDS.
PROMACO's condoms are known in Burkina under the label "Prudence" with the support of a German laboratory. The package of five condoms is said to cost the modest price of 50 CFA francs.
