The Zambian News Agency (ZANA) quoted Lungu as explaining that because of the increasing impact of HIV/AIDS in the country, the association had decided to review its plan and join in the fight against scourge, focusing on youth.
She said PPAZ has already given youths a chance to speak out and articulate what role they want to play in the association's programmes.
At PPAZ's 29th general conference Saturday, Lungu stressed the wisdom in mainstreaming youths in the campaign against HIV/AIDS, arguing that "peer education is more effective in delivering messages."
She also said PPAZ has intensified Family Life education campaigns in all five regions of Zambia and trained more than 10 000 cadres to speak to their peers.
Speaking at the same occasion, PPAZ executive director Godfrey Musonda enjoined traditional leaders to help rid their communities of traditional practices that contribute to the spread of HIV/AIDS.
"People in rural areas have seen the need to get rid of such practices and chiefs can play a vital role in safeguarding their people from the pandemic," he stressed.
Musonda noted that in most areas where PPAZ has worked with chiefs, practices such as sexual cleansing and the inheriting of women by kith of the deceased have died down.
