Panafrican News Agency - December 15, 2001

Lusaka, Zambia (PANA) - Zambian authorities have expressed concern at the death from HIV/AIDS of 93 teachers in the Copperbelt region alone, in the last two years.

According Irene Malambo, who is HIV/AIDS coordinator at the ministry of Education, the ministry has set up a prevention programme countrywide for teachers and pupils alike.

The Zambian News Agency (ZANA) Saturday quoted Malambo as saying that 45 teachers died last year in Kitwe district, adding that by July this year a further 45 had died from HIV/AIDS.
